Shungite is a 2 billion year old stone that is only found in one the Zazhoginsky deposit in the Karelia Region of Northwestern Russia. In history, Peter the Great of Russia turned springs in the region where shungite was present into the first health spas. People in the region have always used shungite in their water and seen its benefits for centuries without fully understanding the reason why. Now science is beginning to catch up with these practices as shungite has been proven in laboratory tests to be 30 times more effective than carbon in removing harmful substances from water. This includes substances such as heavy metals and other contaminants as well as bacteria and organic contaminants often found in drinking water. Another exciting discovery about shungite in recent years was that shungite contains “fullerenes”. Fullerenes are soccer ball like molecules that were first synthesized in a laboratory in 1985. Later on it was discovered that mother nature had already provided a natural source of fullerenes with shungite. When we create shungite water by treating our water with shungite or elite shungite our shungite water contains these natural fullerenes.
